Advanced Search on WhatsApp
Big news arrives for WhatsApp: the famous messaging app, with only a week later than Telegram, introduces the Advanced Search function in its chats.
From my point of view, this is a really useful function to find a lot of chat contents that would otherwise require time and a good memory to remember where the specific GIF, image, video, link, document, or voice/audio message was.
The function has just been released on both Android and iPhone: so let’s find out what it is for and how to use it.
How does the WhatsApp advanced search work?
As you can easily guess, this new feature allows you to search in a more complete and precise way within our chats.
In particular, Advanced Search uses special filters through which users can limit the search to certain contents. Among the filters currently available we find:
Once the desired filter has been selected, WhatsApp will categorize the requested contents showing them in two different ways :
In the search field, it will then be possible to further delimit the search by entering, for example, the name of the conversation, the user, or a keyword.
However, remember that it is activated ONLY on the main screen, the one with the contact list. It does NOT work in the chats of individuals or groups. Just click on the magnifying glass typical of the “search” functions. At this point, some buttons will appear that act as filters: photos, videos, links, GIFs, audio (then music or voice messages), and documents.
A simple click on one of these buttons will bring up the related contents, without however being filtered by the sender, keyword, or other.
After clicking on one of the types of content, you can refine your search by writing, for example, the name or simply the initials following the tag itself, or a keyword that we remember being present in the discussion, and so on.
Who can use WhatsApp Advanced Search?
All users who have an Android or iPhone smartphone.
Simply update the app to the latest version via the App Store or Play Store.
